Today, UNDP Resident Representative in Kazakhstan, Katarzyna Wawiernia, met with the Minister of Healthcare, Akmaral Alnazarova, to discuss their ongoing efforts to enhance Kazakhstan’s healthcare system. The meeting highlighted the successful joint project with SK Pharmacia, focusing on the procurement of medicines for socially significant diseases, and the prospects for health digitalization.

Since 2018, the partnership with SK Pharmacia has effectively facilitated the procurement of essential medicines. Minister Alnazarova expressed gratitude for the collaboration, particularly in expanding the range of medicines available. This strategic approach aims to ensure a steady supply of critical treatments for the population of Kazakhstan.

Ms. Wawiernia emphasized the importance of effective planning and forecasting to maximize the  impact. She noted that having detailed information on the volumes of medicines required over the next three years is crucial for negotiating better prices with suppliers.

To support this initiative, UNDP introduced the SMILE solution—an innovative open-source Electronic Information System for Logistics Management of Medical Products, developed with the expertise of the Country Office in Indonesia. This tool aims to enhance supply chain efficiency by providing real-time inventory monitoring and enabling rapid responses to urgent requests.

UNDP is eager to leverage the combined expertise and resources of all stakeholders to significantly improve health resilience and preparedness for future shocks and pandemics.

In conclusion, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to advancing Kazakhstan’s healthcare system through innovative solutions and strategic collaboration, paving the way for improved health outcomes for all citizens.
