Inclusive Politics

Our work in this area aims to (a) support the development and implementation of policy, legal and regulatory frameworks in line with international and regional standards; (b) strengthen or establish effective and accountable institutions at the national, state and local levels to deliver quality services for all citizens; and (c) tackle corruption and mismanagement of public resources.

Rule of Law and Security

In line with the accelerated implementation plan of the National Security Architecture and the Comprehensive Approach to Security, we provide support to strengthen institutions and build professionalism in order to improve security sector governance and services, civilian oversight functions and climate justice/security.

Economic Recovery and Institutional Development (ERID)

UNDP supports capacity development to improve (a) integrated environmental governance and natural resources management; (b) the use of indigenous knowledge, eco-friendly practices and local coping mechanisms; and (c) access for women, youth, agro-pastoralists and IDPs to participate in and benefit from environmental and economic growth initiatives.

Resilience and Climate Change

UNDP works with the government of Somalia to help communities and institutions protect the environment, generate clean energy and prepare for climate change. All our work is carried out in line with the government’s National Development Plan and in close coordination with UN partner agencies.

Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment

Gender equality is one of the major challenges facing Somalia. The country ranks 4th last on the UNDP Gender Inequality Index with a score of 0.776 (where the maximum score of 1 denotes complete inequality). UNDP is tackling some of the most recurrent aspects of discrimination through its work on policy and advocacy and well as direct support to women in key areas such as politics and the media.
