Honduras Integrated
Data System for Coexistence and Citizen Security
PROJECT OWNER: InfoSegura-UNDP Regional Hub Panama and UNDP Honduras
The Honduras Integrated Data System for Coexistence and Citizen Security is an initiative that the Secretariat for Security of Honduras developed with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), through the InfoSegura Regional Project, in partnership with USAID.
The objective of this system is to help improve citizen security-information management and to promote its analysis and use to support public policy in Honduras. It also aims to increase regional coordination and collaboration in state strategies for citizen security.
The Integrated Data System for Coexistence and Citizen Security emerged from the coordinated efforts of several institutions, namely, the Secretariat for Security (SEDS), the Public Ministry (MP), the Secretariat for Education, the National Statistics Institute (INE), the National Registry of Persons (RNP), the Police Anti-Gang and Against Organized Crime Directorate (DIPAMPCO) AND THE Ministry of Peace and Justice Violence Observatory IUDPAS/National Autonomous University of Honduras. These institutions carry out data-validation in the Technical Working Group on Violent Deaths coordinated by the Secretariat for Security through the UTECI (Technical Inter-Institutional Coordination Unit) with the technical support of the InfoSegura–a joint UNDP and USAID project, which developed and helped implement the integrated system.
The Integrated Data System for Coexistence and Citizen Security analyzes indicators on violence, insecurity and risk factors in the 298 municipalities in Honduras. The information that the system generates can be accessed through an interactive dashboard and maps on the web platform where users can visualize data that has been validated by public agencies with oversight by academia.
The System is made up by a set of five tools that consolidate, analyze and systematize gender-sensitive information pertaining to coexistence and citizen security, which are: Advanced Analyzer, Territorial Prioritization Index, Municipal Situational Analysis, Specialized Municipal Situational Analysis focused on Women and Girls and the School Citizen-Security Prioritization Index.
