Business Adaptation Programme
for Future Tourism Graduates
PROJECT OWNER: UNDP Barbados and Eastern Caribbean - AccLab Barbados and Eastern Caribbean
The Business Adaptation Programme (BPA) aimed to train Caribbean tourism entrepreneurs with the skills to thrive in the digital age. The initiative was facilitated in collaboration with the University of the West Indies Open Campus and the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management as the first phase of a 3-phased project to better-prepared beneficiaries to navigate the challenges presented by the post-COVID-19 landscape.
The 187 entrepreneurs with varied backgrounds, experiences and hailing from different countries and territories across the region developed technical skills in digital technologies, financial planning, and marketing for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Gender equality and empowerment of women were integral parts of the programme, with 77% of the participants' businesses being women-owned or managed.
Recognizing diverse participant backgrounds, the training was delivered at three levels: fundamental, intermediate, and advanced. This ensured each MSME received the appropriate training to address their unique needs and maximize their growth potential. As a result, the MSMEs were better prepared to withstand future shocks and continue to make valuable contributions to local and regional economies.
